Rafise stood still in the doorway; instinctively, his left hand moved to his belt. The two guards stood over her, and Rafise knew she was the one. Her eyes were the strangest thing he'd ever seen, but before he could get closer, she turned back to the guards. They shook, apparently realising what kind of a person she was. They came to their senses, and pressed their weapons forward, willing her to submit.
The arbite had seen enough. He pulled his boltgun from its holster and shouted.
"Stop!" The warning was to both the Alpha and the guards. "You two back away!"
He came towards the girl, who was looking at him again. Her eyes flashed with a desire, a desire to run. Rafise saw it and lowered his gun.
Holding out his gloved hand, he talked gently.
"I don't know who you are, but I want to protect you. Come with me. I promise, I won't hurt you."
Rafise saw her shift slightly, he knew he couldn't rely on a promise alone.
"There are people who would seek to use you for their own desire. I can stop it."
The girl opened her trembling lips.
"I... what about, the people... on..."
"Whatever you have done, I'm sure you thought it was right. Come with me, and I can keep you safe."
The guards at Rafise's side shifted. The Marshal turned to them, speaking in whispered tones.
"You may leave. Say nothing of this when asked."
He turned back to the psyker.
"What is your name?"

"My lord, Anubis, we detect a single ship in orbit of the planet as well as a orbital station. Weapons Station Ramilles Class. A relatively easily taken world."
"It's not the world that we're after. It's the Alpha psyker. And she is not on the planet, not yet," replied Anubis, his tone ambiguous and disconcerting.
Continuing in a commanding voice, Anubis said, "Move us closer to the ship. Prepare squads Isis and Osiris for boarding action. Also, prepare squad Sempum of the Jackal Guard," Anubis ended the communications resolutely, his voice conveying all the certainty required to exert the perfect response from Captain Prath.
A few minutes later, Anubis spoke aloud to all of the psykers in the room. "Stop this charade. They will see us soon, assuming they do not see us now. Those of you not in squad Semprum may do as you wish for the moment."
Sending his words as thoughts, Anubis spoke to his top lieutenants, "Prophen, Icarus, follow me to the bridge."
There was no audible or psychic reply, but both lieutenants followed Anubis as he left the psychic study and walked to the bridge. Finding Prath waiting for them with data-slates in hand, Anubis smiled. Such an efficient Captain. Prophen was right when he recommended the man for the position.
"My Lord, I have devised a plan for the boarding action, which, if you accept it, should work well."
"Go on."
"We will need to take both the station and the ship. If we leave the station it will undoubtedly attack us or the ship once we capture it. So, squads Isis and Osiris will take the station, capturing it and allowing us to use it for our own agenda."
"Squad Semprum will go. They will be more effective in taking the station than taking the ship." In truth, Anubis just didn't want that many loose cannon psykers around his prized Alpha. The Jackal Squads were fully composed of human psykers.
"In that case, my Lord, squads Isis and Osiris will board the ship and squad Semprum the station. We will send several assault pods towards the station, each with a teleport homer. So long as one makes it through, which is statistically guaranteed, then squad Semprum can teleport in and take the station. Ramilles class around a planet like this has at most twenty staff personel, including naval guardsmen. It will not be heavily guarded. Once the station is taken we can send squads Osiris and Isis to the ship near one of the airlocks. They can open it, allowing for a Thunderhawk to land inside the ship. We detect no weapon arrays on teh ship itself - it's a pure merchant."
"Good, Prophen and I will go via Thunderhawk as well as a squad of automatons. Icarus, I want you to capture the station. Teleport over there with squad Semprum and ensure that it is taken."
"Yes, my lord Anubis."
A klaxon went off, and Anubis noticed a red light flashing at one of the stations crewed by Sempri naval officers.
"Captain Prath, is something wrong?"
"Oh, nothing to worry about. The Imperials want our access codes. Ours are, how-shall-I-say, somewhat out of date, but we should be able to stall them long enough for lord Icarus and squad Semprum to ready themselves. We should also have plenty of time to get in range to launch the assault pods."
"Good, that's all I need to hear."
Icarus was already on his way to the armory, and Anubis didn't see him before he teleported to the Imperial station.
Anubis relaxed when he heard the calming voice of Icarus come over the comms, "We have taken the weapon controls to the station. I will hunt down any remaining survivors while squad Semprum guards the control room. It is safe to launch your attack."
Immediately two assault pods catapulted towards the Imperial ship, crashing into hull with malice. As squads Isis and Osiris secured one of the two landing bays that Prath had seen on the ship, Anubis, Prophen, and ten automatons sat still, in complete silence. A serene moment before the coming storm. A storm that rained las-bursts, hailed bolts, and struck with a flash of super-heated plasma.
Anubis smiled as the landing bay was closed, and the descent ramp crashed into the cold metal floor. Anubis tread down the ramp, plasma pistol and Sempri sword in hand. Prophen was behind him, holding in his right hand a bolt pistol and wearing a glove on his left hand. Attached to the glove were nano-blades, small enough to penetrate the tiniest openings between armor, puncture deep into a victims skin, and release electric shock in both fatal and non-fatal amounts, depending on how much pain Prophen felt like inflicting.

"What is your name?"
Kait lowered her head. She had been caught. Or at least for now. If she could just make it to the planet, she could escape and dissapear. The man tugged her arm and pulled her around. He winced slightly as her looked into her eyes.
"What is your name?"
This time it was slightly less calm. Kait heard traces of impatience in his voice. She blinked. The man stumbled back and covered his eyes. No doubt Kait had again allowed herself to slip. She could see the reflection in the mans eyes. Her head was covered in black flame that licked around the tips of hewr hair. She had been sio stupid. Again, making a run for it she got about halkfway down the corridor when a red hot object struck the ankle.
She fell to the floor, and a red liquid surrounded her. She seen her reflection in the puddle. Her head was back to normal. When she examined her ankle, the vision blurred by the tears of pain. she found that she had been hit. The man lay there, gun raised. Almost instantly the wound began to heal. The skin began to stretch and it hid the bone and sinew, and the horrible melted sludge from the las blast.
Beginning to run again, several more red hot points of light hit her, and she fell to the ground. Kait could feel two holes in her back, and the metled bone they had produced. She began to black out from the pain, but felt her skin begin to stretch and bones begin to reform. She was not immortal, but darn was she lucky. Personally, she would have prefered to die. Her insticts told her otherwise. The room turned black and white, before fading completely. She did not feel herself being dragged by the repaired ankle.
