Well, why'd you choose your army? Did you really like their artwork, their models, their fluff, or something else? Did something really stick out and set that army above all the others in your mind?

Okay, let's start: Space Marines (artwork, appearance etc.)
Orcs (Mind the 'c', this is fantasy): Easy to paint, even mistakes look good. Mesh up some brown on the skin and people will think it's mud. You can throw around with inks and the armor will even look more realistic. On a side note, the shapes of the skin make it easy to highlight and shade.
Lizardmen: I was the kid who loved dinosaurs, guess what happened when I found out Warhammer?

Tau- Because.. Imperium races are too religious (And marines look kinda silly, no offense to the knights of olympia), nids are ugly, orks are well.. orcs.. chaos is totally retarded (I mean they look.. yeah... great unclean ones... ), dont get me started with eldar/dark eldar... I dont play much on the tabletop (Since our club was disbanded when we moved onto highschool and my tau sit on a shelf collecting dust round their hooves, so I play Dawn of War alot and have a big collection of black liberary novels.

I felt that the SM's were the most basic force to start with so that's my main reason for starting with them. Though I liked the Dark Angels more than the others.
